Ever wonder how some people get really cool stuff to show up in their posts, and you're stuck with just the normal text? Let me take you through a quick tour of some functions of the message board.
Universal Bulletin Board Code (UBBC) are a set of tags that you cannot see but your web browser can. These tags tell your browser to do certain things. Some can make text bold or underlined for emphasis. You can use others to add your email address or a nice link.
Let's start with the basics: formatting text. When you start a new thread or post within an existing thread you have the option of changing the look of your text. You do this by adding tags. I'll use bold for my example.
This text is bold.
It's very easy to do. Here's how.
Do you see the [ b ] and [ /b ] tags around the text? This is how I tell the browser to start making bold text here, and stop down there. It's important to show where you want to start and stop formatting, or else the browser will make everything bold without ever stopping.
Don't worry; you really don't need to memorize all the different tags to make your posts look more interesting. Most boards, this one included, give you easy options for formatting. Simply click the button for bold (it is the letter B) and it will insert the tags for you! Then just type the text you want bolded between those tags and you're good to go.
Common formats include:
Italics
Underline
Strikethrough
[/ul]
Just remember: every time you open a tag, you should close it too! Don't be afraid to make mistakes. You can always preview your post or modify it later.
I hope this has helped!
